The date for the local body elections is likely to be announced today. The State Election Commission may announce the dates at a press conference today. It is also likely that the local body elections will be held in two phases.

Municipal and municipal elections will be held in the first phase and district and taluka panchayat elections will be held in the second phase. The petitioner has sought directions from the State Election Commission to submit a status report before the Gujarat High Court on the issue. The petitioner has also cited the judgment of the Central Election Commission in the PIL case against Subramaniam Swamy.
